In-Home Care During COVID-19

Should you risk a caregiver to visit your loved one at home during the pandemic? The answer is yes but make sure you and the caregiver are taking precautions.

There are several safety measures that can be taken to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19 while having a caregiver come to the home. First and foremost is bacteria and infection control. The caregiver should be wearing a mask, gloves, and other protective equipment to minimize the spread of germs. Disinfecting high traffic surfaces such as, door knobs, counter tops, sink faucets, and bathroom surfaces before and after the caregiver’s visits will go a long way in keeping your loved one safe.

We are proud to say that at Family First, our safety protocols and Coronavirus procedures have kept our clients and caregivers safe since the pandemic began. We’ve taken several measures to ensure everyone’s safety including the following:

  • Our professional caregivers come equipped with masks, gloves, and shoe covers.
  • All caregivers have received advanced training in Coronavirus.
  • All caregivers practice bacteria and infection control, handwashing procedures, and hand sanitizing procedures.
  • All caregivers refrain from coming to work if they feel sick or have respiratory problems.
  • Caregivers are screened before each visit with a client for symptoms.

What to ask your caregiver or agency about their COVID-19 precautions:

  • What are you doing to protect yourself outside of your work hours?
  • Has anyone close to you contracted the virus or been exposed?
  • Will you inform us if you start to feel sick?
  • What can you do to monitor my loved one for symptoms?
